The auxiliary of the Tallman Lake Senior Center, 6765 Marshall Road, Fountain, is organizing a March 23 craft shopping excursion to Arnie’s Arts ‘N’ Crafts in Houghton Lake, MI. Participants may assemble at the center starting at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, March 23, and should be prepared to depart promptly at 8:00. Those attending will be responsible for their own beverages, snacks, and meals. Lunch and any other diversions will be by consensus depending on time constraints.
The group will carpool, so anyone who wants to participate should call the center at 231-757-3306 by 3 p.m., Monday, March 18, to reserve a place. There is no fee, but nominal donations to the ridesharing drivers are welcome.
SHOW-AND-TELL
RELEASE DATE: February 8, 2023
Tallman Lake Senior Center is hosting its first session of Show-and-Tell Wednesday, March 1. This will be a recurring event the first Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Anyone who would like to participate is encouraged to display and describe an item such as a memento, photograph, award, art or craft, or a bygone toy, tool or household object, or is welcome to simply recount a memorable experience. The length of each presentation will vary as time allows, and presenters are not required to preregister.
SAFE AND SANE EXERCISE
RELEASE DATE: February 1, 2023
A new fitness class called Safe and Sane Exercise has replaced the televised “Sit and Be Fit” program previously featured at 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays. The one-hour session is held Mondays, at 10:30 a.m., in the room adjacent to the center’s main gathering space.
Classes are facilitated by Cheryl T. and include seated and standing movements, along with the use of resistance bands, to improve balance and strength. This safe but progressive workout is tailored for every ability level, and regular participants can expect to increase repetitions and levels of resistance.
Also included are brain-fitness word games and tossing a foam ball to enhance eye-hand coordination, resulting in levity and laughter, which healthcare professionals agree can lead to better respiratory and heart health.
